Richard Avery Knapp age 91, passed away peacefully in Apache Junction, AZ on July 7, 2026. He was born April 20, 1935 in Syracuse, New York to Inez Knapp (Becker) and Lansford E. Knapp II.
Richard had a long career serving in the US Air National Guard. He was a Radar Specialist and had a long history of love for airplanes. He served in his early years at Hancock Airforce Base in Syracuse, NY and then his job took him and his family to Arizona where he served in the Papago Unit in Phoenix, AZ.
Richard will be remembered for his love and knowledge of planes, his warm hugs and love of his family gatherings.
Richard is survived by a loving wife Barbara Knapp, four children- Laura (Bruce), Kathi (Kathleen), Richard (Bethzalie) and Susan. 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Richard is survived by his sister Barbara Foringer (Knapp), and many nieces, nephews, special family and friends. He is predeceased by 3 siblings Lansford III, Sally, and Tom,
Richard and his wife lived a happy and active life in the community of BVMHP. Richard will be sorely missed by his BVMHP community and vast loving family.
There will be a gathering at BVMHP on Sunday July 12th from 2-4 with a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Uncle Rich will be missed so much! You will never meet a warmer soul and I’m sure there’s a big welcome party in Heaven with my Dad and the rest of our families. God rest your soul, Uncle Rich. We love you! ❤️
