Helen M. Nelson Obituary

Helen M. Nelson, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Mesa, AZ on May 10, 2016. She was born in Racine, WI on November, 16, 1929, daughter of the late Gabriel and Martha (Nee Andersen) Haavarsen. On July 15, 1947 she was united in marriage with Norman F. Nelson in Racine, WI. In 1984, Helen and Norm moved from Racine, WI to Apache Junction, AZ.

Helen was a loving wife, devoted mother, sister, and friend to many. She enjoyed bowling, going on cruises, and volunteering. She spent many hours delivering meals to the elderly and home bound as part of Racine’s Meals on Wheels program. Later in life Helen spent much of her time providing companionship and care services to the elderly. She had a heart full of love and compassion to serve others.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; sister, Gerda (Richard) Krupp; and son-in-law, David Schiller.

Helen is survived by daughter, Cynthia Schiller; sons, Monte Nelson and Kelly (Kim) of Apache Junction, AZ and Konrad Nelson of Racine, WI; grandchildren, David (Brandy) Schiller of Mesa, AZ, Darren (Brandy) Schiller of Apache Junction, AZ, Daniel Schiller of Alexandria, VA and Martha (Matthew) Sheahan of Union Grove, WI. She is further survived by ten great-grandchildren, in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends.

A private memorial service will be held at 11:00am, on Thursday, May 19th, 2016 at Superstition Cremation & Funeral Services, Apache Junction, AZ. Condolences can be sent to 9829 E Pueblo Ave. #38 Mesa, AZ 85208.

    Very sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. My brother John and I fondly remember playing together at Norm and Helen’s house. They put up with a lot from all the neighborhood kids. God bless you and keep you! Love and prayers – John and Sue Mathison
