Edythe “Edy” Jean Edwards of Gold Canyon, Arizona, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories.
Edy is survived by her son Charles Derek Edwards, daughter Denise Suzanne Dykstra Veneklasen, daughter-in-law Dawn Kurth, grandsons Anthony James Dykstra and Murphy Edwards. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Jacob Dykstra, Hailey-Paxton Dykstra, Lennox Dykstra, and Karter Dykstra.
Edy faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, displaying unwavering love for her family. Her deep connection with her late spouse, Charles Trevor Edwards, endured for 54 years until his passing in 2017. Together, they built a foundation of love, commitment, and shared experiences that will be remembered fondly by those who knew them.
Edy’s legacy lives on through the generations she touched with her warmth, wisdom, and love. As family and friends mourn her loss, they find solace in the cherished memories and the enduring impact she had on their lives.

My lifetime friend. We were friends for over 70 years we knew everyone’s of our secrets and we kept them to ourselves because when we were younger we had a few secrets we had a wonderful relationship and Edy and Chuck spent many vacations with Paul and I and it was Wonderful. I miss her so much just knowing she was there was enough but she’s in my heart forever and so is Chuck and so is Paul and I’ll be joining them soon and Derek and Denise. I love you kids too. I know Edy is happy to be back with Chuck , I’m sure they’re having a wonderful time and I hope to join them soon.
Edy and Chuck were a big of the Starlight Pines/Happy Jack community. She and I were morning walking partners ( one mile) every morning for several years. We missed them when they left but we kept in touch with Edy and were able to keep her linked to their mountain friends. Our hearts are sad for now knowing we will not see them again on this earth.
Edy was an icon in the early years of Starlight Pines, as the first Property Manager for the Association in its infancy. She worked closely with the board and the Architectural Committee, maintaining the budget, paying bills, and interfacing with community members. As President of the HOA, I worked very closely with Edy and some of my fondest memories of Edy are our times of preparing for HOA Board meetings and preparing the operating budget for the HOA . But what I remember most are a couple of Edy’s sayings when introducing herself or referring to herself in a group of people the use of the saying “the pretty one” and then the phrase there are times “Life isn’t easy being Edy” Now that last phrase I have taken on myself when things are just not going right. I need to make myself smile, I’ll say, “Life isn’t easy being Bill.” Now it will have another special meaning for me because will also have flashbacks to my friend Edy.
