Marvin Stern was born in Terry MT on 9/9/1941 and died in Phoenix AZ at the Mayo Clinic on 1/5/2024. His parents were Albert Stern and Elsie Sackman Stern. He had 2 brothers, Ron Stern and Del Stern. He had 3 sisters, Ivalo Stern, Marietta Stern and Ardina Stern Stobie.
Marv grew up on a farm in Fallon Montana. In Marv’s senior year of high school, he moved to Missoula with his family and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1959. Marv went to the University of Montana and worked at Bonner Mill. He started Stern Construction in 1964 and never really stopped working until he was 82 years old.
He enjoyed his work and loved the guys he worked with and the people he worked for. He married Sharon (Sherry) Cahoon, Mitchell, Stern in 1974. They had 2 sons, Brandon Mitchell and Jeremy Stern. Marv and Sherry wintered in AZ starting in 2018 where they played golf and enjoyed their friends in the sun. Marv was good at almost everything he set his mind to. He was a wonderful cook, floral arranger, Gardner, husband, father and grandfather. Marv was a hard worker and a hard-headed German. He was a great Dad and adored his beautiful granddaughters, Sylvia and Elaina Stern.
Marv was in a Children’s Theater production of Paint Your Wagon. This was really stepping out of the box for him. I went to six productions to watch my husband. I was so proud of him. It was something I had always wanted to do but never had the courage. I kept going back thinking I would watch everyone but I only had eyes for him!
Marv lives on in hearts of his wife Sherry Stern, his sons Brandon Mitchell and Jeremy Stern (Ashley), granddaughters Sylvia Stern and Elaina Stern; his sisters, Marietta Stern and Ardina Stern Stobie; his brother Ron Stern (Cheryl) and his beloved niece and nephews and countless friends and family.
A celebration of Marv’s life will be held in the spring or summer back home in Montana.
Marv had a great life. Such an honorable, man that we all loved. RIP !!

Marvin will be missed by everyone who knew him. His talents were numerous and I feel blessed to have sampled his cooking. He had a great sense of humor. Most of all he had a wonderful marriage , beautiful wife ,family and home.

Marvin was a stellar human being. He was loving, kind , fun, funny and a good person. We will miss him.
Will miss seeing Marvin, next door, as always helped me if something came up at my house, will miss all of his smart remarks ha, and all the wonderful carpetner work he did on my house.
