Gerald D. Spath ObituaryGerald D. Spath, 85, of Apache Junction, AZ passed away on May 23, 2016. He was born on January 25th, 1931 in Huntington, IN to Russell and Dessie (Purdue) Spath. Gerald was a loving husband to Jeanne Spath. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 16th, 2016. He is survived by his wife Jeanne of AZ; sons Robert (Tisha) Preston of AZ, Rodger Spath, Richard Spath and Kenneth (Cheryl) Keeran all of Ohio; daughters Rita Spath, Elenor (Ed) Kerns, Shirley (Tommy) Bennett, Rhonda Van Hess all of Ohio, and Lynna (Mel) Johnson of Arizona; brothers Stanley Spath, Donald Spath, and Ronald Spath all of Ohio; as well as nieces, nephews, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Phyllis Calhoun of Missouri. Gerald served his country in the US Navy on the USS Iowa and the USS Saint Paul from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was a brakeman/conductor with the railroad for over 35 years in Ohio and Nebraska. He retired from the Burlington Northern railroad in Nebraska. He moved to sunny Arizona after retirement to play golf and enjoy life! Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:00am at Superstition Funeral Home, 398 E Old West Hwy, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. Committal services will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Cancer Society.
